R52 Embedded Controller update issue

#1 Post by Leszek K » Sun Sep 26, 2010 9:36 am

Hello.

Sory i'm writing a new topic, i haven't found anything on the forum about it yet and i don't know if working longer on this laptop is a good idea...

I have a problem with bios/embedded controler update in my laptop. It's a T42 with R52 mobo (the T42 was 2373YSX and the mobo R52 is from 1848DG5). The problem appeared when i've tried tu update bios. The update of bios 1.18 to 1.29 was done with no problems, but when i've tried to update the embedded controller 1.04 to 1.06 the program (non diskette) crashed (during the update).

Luckily nothing bad happened (laptop works fine) but the controller is still 1.04... On lenovo site it is clearly written that bios newer than 1.23 should work with newer controller (1.05 or better).

Is this controller realy so important ? What is this controller and what should i do now ? I'm terryfied that something bad will happen with laptop - for about 2 months i was fighting with supervisor password (i've bought a mobo with it...), i don't want new problems :/

Thank you for reading this message, and sory for my english... it's very poor.

Best regards,

What happened when you tried to update? (Your English is a lot better than my Polish)

I'm trying my best : )

I don't remember the message - something with word "issue". It started to appear and keep poping up on the screen. Whole screen was covered with it : / When nothing else happend i've turned the laptop off.

I can do it one more time if i have too (too check the message)... but i'm a little afraid. I need this laptop for my studies, so it has to work all the time (its my only PC at this moment).

I've forgot to mention that i don't have an FDD drive for this laptop.

If it is working, I suggest leaving it alone unless you can get your hands on a floppy.

I'll leave it this way until i'll have a spare PC. Maybe i'll find someone with FDD, and try to do one more time using the diskette version : )

Thank you for your help. At least i know that my IBM will be working in this configuration with no problems.

Best regards : )
