T30 Won't Boot

#1 Post by kc27 » Mon Sep 27, 2010 12:20 pm

Hello All

I have T30 that will not boot. When I push the power button, the Power On, Scroll Lock, Caps Lock, Num Lock lights, Battery Status, and Standby Status lights all blink, then all the other lights go out execpt for the Battery Status light which stays lit. There are no beeps, no fans spinning, no sounds at all.

I had a mishap where the laptop was working fine one second, the next it was dead. The laptop was powered on and was streaming internet audio. I dropped a single "c" size battery about 12 inches above to the top left portion of the t30's keyboard - and at that moment the laptop just quit. Now, when I try to start the laptop, I get get the lights that flash as described above, but nothing else.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas on how to resolve or troubleshoot this.

That place where you dropped the battery is just above the CPU, which might have become dislodged (or broke).
Remove the keyboard, check for a bent aluminum base of the keyboard or other pieces. Straighten out if possible.
Check that the fan can spin freely.
Try and start with the KB connected but lifted up, and check if the fan turns.
If not, remove the keyboard bezel/palmrest, and remove/reseat the CPU, reseat the fan.
Any luck?
Try another CPU.

Thanks.

Nothing is bent on the keyboard, and the fan spins free. I tried powering with the keyboard lifted as you suggested. Nothing happens. I'll try reseating next.

I did as RealBlackStuff suggested and inspected the fan and CPU. The fan spins freely, the CPU is not broken. No beeps when the memory is removed, either.

Is there anything else I can try, or should I assume this unit is dead?

With CPU broken I mean "no longer working".
If the mobo still works, it should beep 1-3-3-1 with all RAM, drives and wifi/modem cards removed.
If you don't hear anything, try another CPU.
Failing that, you most likely need a new mobo.

PS: I have a great T30 with as-new SXGA+ and both RAM slots working, in excellent condition.
I'd be willing to sell you that in a barebones version.
PM me if interested.
