HELP with an old 770 U31
HELP with an old 770 U31
I have an old U31 ThinkPad 770 Model Number 9548 and i had to format the harddrive recently and reinstall the OS.
I put windows 98 back on it, and I need to put the ThinkPad Configuration Utility on it, but I dont know which version from the website I need. I have tried the following files.
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... g=en&cc=US
This is for a friend.

Thanks for your reply
I really appreciate the link. I am running into other problems. When I try to install some software like Microsoft Office or something, it will run through the setup partially and then unexpectedly restart the laptop. I dont know if it is a heat issue or some kind of corruption somewhere, but I cant seem to install any software.
I tried copying the files and install them from the Harddrive but it does the same thing. starts then restarts during the setup.
Any ideas?
thanks

Thank you
I took out the stick of ram and the software installed just fine. I also was able to run the windows updates and everything. I ran the Memory tests from the BIOS and it came out fine.
This might be a dumb question, but does it matter which memory slot the memory stick has to be in? I tried the memory stick into each slot on the bottom and I didnt notice anything different except I got the same errors I was getting before with the memory stick in place.
So it looks like the client needs to buy another stick of ram.
Again thanks sickofit.

Re: Thank you
In general, no. It wouldn't cause the problem you're seeing anyway.dduck1934 wrote:This might be a dumb question, but does it matter which memory slot the memory stick has to be in?
However, to be complete, the 770 would take EDO or SDRAM dimms. IF you used an EDO dimm, and IF it were the 64M dimm, it had to go in a particular slot to recognize all 64M. Otherwise it would only see 32M of the 64M.
