Lenovo sneakily removes web sale

#1 Post by Growly » Sat Oct 02, 2010 7:27 am

Hi guys,

Quick moan: I configured a system for a friend on Thursday. There was a web sale on and a mighty deal to be had on a T510. The sale was originally due to expire at the end of Friday but I noted when I configured the system that it, quite clearly, had been extended until Monday (October 4th). However, I can no longer see any links to the same discounted model or any other way to get the same sale price (via eCoupon or something). I emailed myself a copy of the cart at the time, which makes it all the more frustrating, and it's now a good ~NZ$400 more expensive.

This is ridiculous. How am I supposed to trust what the website says about sale lengths and such? I don't like potluck shopping...

I'm going to call them on Monday and explain. Has anyone had similar experiences in the past?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know how it works in NZ, but here in the US you can covert your cart to a quote, which is valid for 30 days I believe. If you can wait there'll be another sale.

Thanks for your reply Fred. I gave them a call to see what was going on. The man I spoke to said that they had probably run out of stock and hence had to withdraw the offer early. I moaned a little more and he said he'd check what the situation was with his manager, then call be back. Of course he'll never call me back (it's been two days), but now I've noticed that even the long-standing web discount has been removed. That discount's never been removed.

I feel there are other factors at work here. Either Lenovo can no longer afford to give as generous "discounts" (or rather, it has to maintain higher markups), or maybe they are preparing to release a new model or even a refresh?

Did the web site explictly say that it was extended to Monday, or did you just form that opinion based on the offer being available after the time it was supposed to have closed?

Cheers,
