Utility to record T43 CPU/GPU temps to a file

#1 Post by catback » Mon Oct 04, 2010 6:33 am

Hi,

I'm looking for a utility that will record the laptop's CPU and/or GPU temps to a file at a predetermined interval (ie. every nth minute). I've tried a few of the more popular temperature monitoring software such as Motherboard Monitor and Real Temp but I get a message saying they are unable to detect any onboard temperature sensors. I find this odd since TPFanControl lists temperature readings for both the CPU and GPU along with several others system temperatures. Unfortunately, I don't believe TPFanControl has the ability to log these to a file.

If anyone has suggestions or knows of a utility that can log temps to a file, please let me know.

Thanks.

TPFanControl does in fact offer a logging feature. You have to set one of the options in the .ini file to enable this feature.

You have to set one of the options in the .ini file to enable this feature.
Found this in the FAQ:
  • Q: Does TPFanControl write to files?
    A: Yes, but only to TPFanControl.log, TPFanControl_csv.txt and TPFanControl_last_csv.txt
    and only if you have enabled that in TPFanControl.ini and only if running with admin rights.
...and these in the .INI file:

Code: Select all

 // Log2File=1 enables, Log2File=0 disables writing to TPFanControl.log
// Start program with admin rights.

Log2File=0

// --------------------------------------------------------
// Log2csv=1 enables, Log2csv=0 disables
// writing to TPFanControl_csv.txt renamed to
// TPFanControl_last_csv.txt after restart of TPFanControl
// rename to *.csv for use with excel
// Start program with admin rights.

Log2csv=0
However, this is vague as to exactly what those logs record.

So I just activated them in the .INI file and then checked them. It looks like TPFanControl_csv.txt is the one you want:

Code: Select all

Yeah, those would dump into Excel just fine.
