cpu and battery power management

#1 Post by zver17 » Sat Mar 12, 2005 1:33 pm

after recently installing the battery maximiser (BM) and power manager i am trying to set the CPU so that it always runs as 600MHz when in battery mode, and always at 1.7GHz in plugged-in mode. At the moment, using mobile meter, it seems the cpu goes back up to 1.7Ghz even on battery whenever some tasks arises (eg, opening word), which seems wasteful. I looked through the BM menu and cannot find it. I did find cpu power management and the 2 options are 'automatic" and "disable". I tried both and it didnt seem to do anything. Where do I find the menu for selecting CPU speeds?

I also read in the BM help that it could be beneficial to set the battery charge level to a low number (I was thinking 50% or so) to reduce the number of charge cycles (I use the T42 plugged in for the majority of time). Again, I cannot find the menu for setting this.

thanks in advance!

If you click on the battery icon and then "View Scheme Settings," you can create a new power scheme, where for either AC or DC power you can select a CPU speed and set it to Maximum, Adaptive, Slow, or Very Slow. Slow and Very Slow are not any different, both will run the CPU at a constant 600MHz. If you don't have these options, try updating your battery manager software (I run battery management software ver. 1.36 and power management driver ver. 1.26).

thanks - got the CPU throttling fixed (had to reinstall battery maximiser).

Now, what about setting the threshold for battery charge level to a low number (I was thinking 50% or so) to reduce the number of charge cycles (I use the T42 plugged in for the majority of time). I am sure I saw a thread about this and looked for it, and the help file suggests it can be done, but I cannot find the menu/thread for setting this.
