T20 2647 usb and ultrabay failure.

#1 Post by Masi_K » Tue Oct 05, 2010 11:22 am

Hi.
Laptop was off for few weeks or one month(i don't remember) and after boot usb port didn't work anymore. I was going to use pen drive. Light on drive turns on and turns of right after. Windows founds that something is plugged to a port, but doesn't know what. I have an gut feeling that there is power failure to a usb port. No light whatsoever flashes after that first lit.

Ultrabay disconnects cdrom drive very often and of course reconnects without me touching anything. This was way before but it feels like it has gone worse after days passes. :|

This sounds like southbridge reflow to me. I'm right ?

Sounds more like a failing I/O board
I'm not aware of anyone ever reflowing a T2x series motherboard.
You could try removing/scraping the contacts clean/resoldering all the inductors.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Hi, i tried to take that laptop apart. I was half way there and I had to put things back together. It was a bit too complicated, atleast for this time. :| I used some compressed air to ultraport contacts, and looks like it worked. Usb is still broken. I gived it away to my friend so it's not my concern anymore. Until he calls me. :P
