Is it possible to unlock an HP branded Gobi 2000 card?

#1 Post by Jason404 » Sat Oct 09, 2010 8:10 pm

I want to get a Gobi 2000 card for my X200s.

ThinkPad Gobi 2000 cards are still very expensive, while HP branded ones can be had for much less, on eBay.

Is it possible to unlock an HP branded Gobi 2000 card so that it can be used on an X200s?

I was browsing for topics about the GOBI 2000 (because I've ordered one) - and then I saw your post. Has this been resolved?

I have read somewhere in this forum about Zander bios patch. If you use a card that is not supported by the bios or whitelist, you must patch the bios. A lot of people have made their wwan work using the patch. Search for Zander, also you need to request patch from Harryc.

Thanks for the reply. I still have not bought a Gobi card, but I want to soon.

Do you know if the patch works on the X200/X200s?

search using gobi 2000 from the search bar icon above. you should find zender's topic.

i am reading it now, it seems that the gobi 2000 is not in the x200 whitelist and i will be needing the patched bios. you have to pm zander to get a copy of the patch.

Thanks, I'll look into it. But the X200 was sold with the Gobi 2000 cards, so it will be in the whitelist - it's just that it has to be a Levono branded one.

i'll let you know once my gobi 2000 arrives, if it will be accepted by the x200. i have use the sony erricsson-lenovo-branded wwan and it works.

i also have an x201i. i ordered the lenovo-branded gobi 2000 for the x201i. but i will interchange them and see if they do work.

i saw in some posts that the gobi 2000 is not in the whitelist. 'could be referring to a non-lenovo-branded gobi 2000.

anybody here got a lenovo-branded gobi 2000 and used in an x200 successfully without zander's patch bios?

Thanks Danny, that would be very useful.

Are you getting a cheaper HP branded Gobi 2000 then? When are you expecting it to arrive?

Is there any particular reason you are getting a Gobi 2000 instead of another Ericsson f3507g, as I have noticed that the Ericsson cards are quite a lot cheaper? Is the Gobi card any better? I think it may support more protocols of frequency bands. I need one of these WWAN cards for the GPS as well.

i checked the wwan card in my x200. its an ericcson f3507g P/N 43R9153.

i have ordered for my X201i thinkpad gobi 2000 broadband P/N 78Y1399.

no particular reason at all. the f3507 works fine with the X200 and no complaints. but the gobi 2000 is for the X201i. i would have to see what the gobi can give me.
