T410 owners - help with battery information

#1 Post by dr_st » Sun Oct 10, 2010 10:15 am

As with most Thinkpads, there are several battery vendors for T410, and the HMM list several different FRUs.

Battery pack, Li-ion (4 cell) 25: 42T4763, 42T4765
Battery pack, Li-ion (6 cell) 55+: 42T4791, 42T4793, 42T4795, 42T4797
Battery pack, Li-ion (9 cell) 55++: 42T4799, 42T4801, 42T4803

Furthermore, apparently some FRUs have been changed as part of a firmware update: 42T4797 --> 42T4911, 42T4803 --> 42T4912

However, unlike with past models, the HMM does not list who the manufacturer of each FRU is. This is where you (T410 owners) come into the picture. If you can spare a few minutes of the time, please use Lenovo's Power Manager to check the following information on your battery and post it here:

Manufacturer name
FRU part number
Design capacity
Design voltage

If possible, also:

Full charge capacity
Cycle count

Your help will be very much appreciated. :D
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

Thanks for your reply. More answers are welcome.

In the meanwhile, I've located a web page that does list the manufacturers, so this sheds some light:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 75169.html

Code: Select all

Description Geography Marketing part number Replacement part number (FRU)
ThinkPad Battery 55+ (6 Cell) Worldwide 57Y4185 42T4797 (LGC)
                                                                         42T4793 (Panasonic)
                                                                         42T4791 (Sanyo)
                                                                         42T4795 (Sony)
ThinkPad Battery 55++ (9 Cell) 	            57Y4186 	                42T4803 (LGC)
                                                                         42T4801 (Panasonic)
                                                                         42T4799 (Sanyo)
However, I am surprised to see Design Capacity 86.58 for the Sanyo 9-cell. I thought 9-cells for T410 were supposed to be 94Wh. :?:

Hi Dr-st,

I checked again, and it is 86.58 design capacity.

Where did you find the 94 spec?

Thanks and good health, Weogo

In the post right above yours, for instances, and also other places. I've also seen some T410 9-cell batteries (don't know who the manufacturer was), and they said 94Wh on the battery itself...

I would be quite surprised to find out that Lenovo ships batteries which differ in nominal characteristics under the same marketing part number - I don't think it has ever been done before.

Hi Dr-st,

I pulled the battery and read the fine print, which says 94Wh.

Hmm. Wonder what I should do about this...

Thanks and good health, Weogo

Do you have the firmware update for your battery?

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70812
This battery firmware update utility fixes an issue where some batteries indicate an incorrect full charge capacity value. Because of this error, the amount of energy available for use is artificially low, decreasing the amount of time the system can be used on battery. The fix is entirely contained in the battery firmware update; there is no need to replace any hardware for this problem.
Edit: Hmm, don't see your battery FRU in the affected list.
