camera control?
I just got my x201. Lovely little thing... Quick question: this is the first machine I've used with an integrated camera--is there any way to turn it on/off? I haven't been able to find anything at the software level... Thanks for any pointers

Re: camera control?
If you are running Windows, then a "generic" answer is that one can disable/enable the camera -- or any device known to Windows -- via Control Panel/System/Device Manager. [Note: I do not mean you should uninstall the device, but rather to right-click on it, and select Disable or Enable.]
Re: camera control?
Some X201 machines have a built in camera (I've never seen the point of these ... same with my T510) and some have an intergrated webcam. The webcam can be useful if you use Skype as it provides a video link so you can show photos or documents online. How one turns these things on and off is beyond my knowledge at present but I'll look into it.

What do you mean? They are the same thing.killer wrote:Some X201 machines have a built in camera (I've never seen the point of these ... same with my T510) and some have an intergrated webcam.
It's Fn+F6 to control the webcam.

Ahhh, Fn+F6... Now why wouldn't they put that in the documentation somewhere? Or on the key (like they do with Lock, Battery, Sleep, etc.)?Jason404 wrote:It's Fn+F6 to control the webcam.

Re: camera control?
It took them a while to add the icons for F2, F8 and F9 as well, as they aren't on my X31, but the functions worked on those keys (at least in later versions of the ThinkVantage software).Paul Unger wrote:Now why wouldn't they put that in the documentation somewhere? I actually discovered the webcam keyboard shortcut by accident, while I was trying to change the wireless radio settings.

Funny how sometimes the world advances by accident; funny peculiar, not funny haha...Jason404 wrote:I actually discovered the webcam keyboard shortcut by accident, while I was trying to change the wireless radio settings.
