A spare battery for T42

#1 Post by chermesh » Sun Mar 13, 2005 2:37 am

Hi,
I'm going on a set of long flights and since I plan many hours of laptop operation, I wonder if I don't need a spare battery.
I ran a search on the net and the prices are frightening.
What would you suggest as a best choice?

How long are the flights, and what are the specifications on your ThinkPad? My T40 will get 3.5-4 hours on a new 6-cell battery. I'd suggest getting the 9-cell battery as a spare if you need 5-6 hours of operation. If you have a 9 cell and a 6-cell you can pretty much work all day using those.

The Ultrabay Slim battery is equivalent to 3 cells, so I don't think it's worth the cost, unless you absolutely feel you must have it.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

Where do you recommend me to buy the battery?

Thanks.
I'm visiting the US and am not too familiar with computer parts dealers.
What is/are the best place/s to buy a battery?

A week or two ago I read an Anandtech.com discussion thread that IBM was coming out with new higher capacity batteries. Better cells. Couldn't find the thread again. True or false? Anyone have news about this?

The T43 6-cell and 9-cell hold about 10% more than the T42 versions. See my FAQ for more details.

So, will T43 batteries work with T42s?

and look like IBM did change something, either to the battery or T43 case. My T43 with Sanyo 6 cell fit perfectly, not moving around like in my old T42
