SOLD: i1124 (very rare, 240Z's twin, 10.4" XGA), $110 *PIC*

Up for sale is my all-time favorite Thinkpad, an i Series 1124, which is the Japanese i Series' version of the 240Z. I have had it since Jan 2009. I paid $180 for it and thought I was really lucky. Of the 45 Thinkpads I have owned, I have had this for the fourth longest time. I like it so much partly because it's very cute, and partly because it's extremely rare, even rarer than the S30 and 240Z. BTW, I like this i1124 much more than the S30, which I found so pathetic that I kept for only two weeks.

Aside from the color, it looks exactly like the 240Z -- see photos of them side by side on http://www.mars.dti.ne.jp/~ayase/tp/tp240z.htm . The two have very similar specs, except that the i1124 is 500MHz PIII and has no built-in ethernet, while the top configuration of the 240Z is 600MHz PIII and has ethernet (though many other configurations of the 240Z have lower specs such as 800x600 resolution). Here are the detailed specs of this awesome little laptop:

Model: 2609-93J

CPU: 500MHz Pentium III

Display: 10.4" 1024x768 (excellent condition)

RAM: 256MB (the official max is only 192MB; to get 256MB, the onboard RAM was disabled mechanically and a 256MB PC100 module was added to the upgrade slot)

Hard drive: 6.4GB

Keyboard: currently has a U.S. English keyboard that I took from a TP240 (the original Japanese/English keyboard will also be included)

Ports: infrared, USB1.1, mouse, parallel, serial, VGA, PCMCIA, floppy drive port, line-in and line-out (still have the rubber covers for the parallel, serial and VGA ports!)

COA for Windows Millenium (though I don't have the installation CD)

Windows 2000 has been installed to allow you to test the system. Afterward, you should replace it with your own OS.

Battery: extended 6-cell battery (lasts well over an hour, probably around two hours; one of the two battery locks is broken but the other is intact and will hold the battery in place)

AC adapter: A Lenovo-brand 56W AC adapter, P/N 92P1044

Cosmetic condition: around 9.2 out of 10, impressively good for a >9-year-old machine. Most keys have some shine but are perfectly legible. The original Japanese/English keyboard is near-mint.

All the above for $110 plus actual postage. I accept personal check, money order, and PayPal (credit card payment okay but we will split the PayPal fee).

These can be excluded from the order to save you a few bucks and perhaps reduce the postage:

AC adapter, subtract $6

Japanese keyboard, $2

Hard drive, $4

The following can be included for additional money:

A Netgear WG511T 108Mbps wireless PC card, $7

A floppy drive, $3

A 3-cell battery that lasts for only about 10 seconds, $0 (adding this may increase the postage). This battery reduces the laptop's weight to 2.92 lb.

Just curious, what is it about the S30 that you didn't like so much? I had both a 240X and an S30 before and found the latter to be a much more competent and better system altogether. Loved those silly-looking "ears" that covered the keyboard edges on S30.

It does seem like a nice price though.

I didn't like those ears of the S30, and HATED the ugly battery. A third problem with the S30 is that no U.S English keyboard is available for it.

And the i1124 is much nicer than the 240X! The i1124's 1024x768 makes it much more useful, and its silver color is unique and pretty. I will admit the S30 is slightly more powerful than the i1124 (two USB ports versus one, and 600MHz versus 500MHz), but again I think the S30 is ugly, and it's not as rare as the i1124.

i sold my s30 with a US keyboard and kept the japanese one for my collection.   they do exist.

I had no idea! But it's certainly much, much easier to find a U.S. keyboard for the i1124, because you can just use one from a 240 or 240X. In fact, for this i1124, I bought the U.S. keyboard locally from a forum member.

BTW, I am now willing to remove several components from this laptop to reduce the sale price. See my first post for more info.
