Windows 7 new install - now CD / DVD does not play DVDs

I installed Windows 7 using a new formatted drive
So all drivers were reinstalled and mostly from Windows 7

My Hittachi drive on my T43 (1871..) used to function and has never had any issues
Post W7 install it will not read any DVD s but not Device error message on Device manager

When i double click the drive (D:) with the DVD in the drawer pops open

I would try using System Update to see if there are any specific Thinkpad T43 drivers available.

Windows 7 and Vista should come with a DVD decoder (the usual problem with XP and earlier OS installations). Alternatively, I've seen some drives have a problem like thgis because of a poor connection in the optical drive bay.
