It would be nice to just have it auto shutdown/auto power on like the DVD drive. Is this possible? Thanks.
Possible to auto power off 2nd HDD bay in T510?
Possible to auto power off 2nd HDD bay in T510?
Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to have the ultrabay HDD power off like the ultrabay DVD drive is able to do. i notice in My Computer that it says the DVD drive is powered off while the HDD is inside the bay. The only way i seem to be able to turn it off is if I safely remove it. However, then if i put it in sleep/reboot, i have to keep doing this.

Windows allows you to set HD spin down settings in the power manager, would that work?

I doubt it; it seems to apply globally to the drives attached to the system (no specificity). However, given the frequency (at least in my experience) that Windows likes to randomly access my various partitions, it'd never have a chance to stay spun down.
I suppose you could automate a command to safe remove on resume from hibernate. But AFAIK, that'd probably best be done using some scripting and a tool like NirCmd.

Depend on what you are using that drive for, it might work. Here is my somewhat unrelated experience:
On my desktop I have an SSD for my OS, and 4x750GB drives in raid 10 for applications/app data
I was having an issue where certain applications would hang for 5-7 seconds then catch up. I thought I had turned off the spindown options but i didnt. When I did the problem went away.
Point of the story is, nearly all my applications run off this drive, yet windows was spinning it down constantly.
