Mobile broadband on W500 missing?

#1 Post by neoclaw » Wed Oct 20, 2010 2:30 pm

I just bought a new Lenovo W500 (model: 4061-38U) and I'm really happy with it :)
BUT... I can't find the built-in Mobile Broadband.. It's not in Windows 7 64bit, or Ubuntu 10.10 64bit.
The module should be there, because under the battery there is a SIM card slot, and I've inserted my SIM, but still no mobile broadband.. nowhere..

I hope someone can help me out with this.

Have you tried hitting FN-F5 on the keyboard and enabling it?

The original machine specs do not list WWAN. Just because it has a SIM holder does not mean the card is there. The machine could be WWAN ready, which means that you have to purchase the card and install it. -

In addition to the SIM card slot, there must be a matching antenna inside your LCD cover panel...
I *think* both the LCD and this antenna is one unit, hence you need to by your Thinkpad pre-configured with this mobile broadband option, cannot add this afterwards...

In HK, there was no W500 model with mobile broadband. If there was, I would have bought a W500 with mobile broadband with 12:10 ratio high-res screen in a jiffy :(

I ended up buying a T410 model with mobile broadband with 12:10 LCD hi-res instead.

Hello,

I live in Turkey and a friend of mine living in US bought a ThinkPad W500 4062-5FU last year via amazon.com.

http://www.superwarehouse.com/Lenovo_Th ... /p/1570695

The link above declares the features and as you see it is written as:
Wireless Broadband (WWAN): GPRS, WCDMA, HSPA, AT&T

May I use a SIM card of a 3G service provider based in Turkey or am I bound to one in US?

Thanks.
