Stylus stopped working - digitizer broken? & swap SXGA+ LCD

#1 Post by jingorm » Fri Oct 22, 2010 10:16 pm

Last week my stylus on my X60 tablet (SXGA+) stopped working. I do not think it is the stylus, but rather the machine/wacom digitizer that is the problem. I tried reformatting the OS to factory state, but resetting the drivers did not work. Rather than replace the part, which is expensive as the unit is out of warranty, I was wondering if I can buy a used X60/X61 tablet with an XGA screen and put in my still functioning SXGA+ screen in it after switching the digitizer assembly. I am familiar with opening up the Thinkpad and replacing the LCD screen so I don't mind doing it myself. I just wanted to make sure that swapping an XGA screen with an SXGA screen is not an issue (i.e. no graphics card issues or driver issues).

If anyone has any other suggestions for troubleshooting a non responsive digitizer screen, that would be welcome as well.

thanks.

I'll give you a definite "it depends". All x60 tablets came with G4 digitizers and most x61 tablets came with G5 digitizers. They are plug compatible, but the cable connector for the digitizer leg is a different length. Models with G5 digitizers use different LCD cables. I think I have a G4 digitizer in stock (if I can find it). If you want to discuss, send me a pm
