X31 Recovery Disk

#1 Post by jronald » Sun Oct 24, 2010 6:39 am

OK, so I did something stupid
My X31 disk were more than a little rough for the wear, so I copied them onto the home server and thought no more about them. Should have copied as an iso, I just copied the contents. How do I fix them?

Thanks
Ron

Ron, PM me your address and I'll send you a set. If you can identify the files you need I can look for those as well.

I cant ID the missing files, that's the problem. I looked at both a MS-DOS boot disk and a XP boot disk. As near as I can tell the files that are required are on the MBR of the CD-Rom. Very bone head move on my part, I knew better than the way I saved the things, when I saved them!

PM is coming
Thanks
Ron

Have you tried FIXMBR yet? Any Linux Live bootable CD, or even the DOS boot disk should be able to fix up a broken MBR, if that's all that's missing. If running XP, this Microsoft article KB314503 has a procedure using the install media.
A31p: 2653-N5U, 1.7GHz, 1.5GB, 320GB (upgr), CDRW/DVD, Win XP-Pro SP3
X41: 2528-5FU, 1.5 Ghz, 2GB, 40GB, Win XP-Pro SP3

The MBR on the CD-Rom, it not something you can normally see. I cut and pasted the contents to a file folder thinking I would just burn it back to a cd.......wrong answer.
Had I saved it as an ISO, by doing so it saves the MBR from the CD, and I would have been fine. Im sure there is a way to patch what I have and make it work, but I dont know how, and since the best group of people I know did not volunteer how to fix them....Harryc did the next best bet, he is forwarding me a set.
Then its ISO, not copy, ISO, not copy!
