Radeon Mobility 9600 OK for Autocad on T42?
Radeon Mobility 9600 OK for Autocad on T42?
I'm contemplating the use of a T42 2379DXU with the 64MB GPU for Autocad use. I will not be pushing the card too hard since most work will be 2D and smaller (houses and the like).
Any opinions on whether or not this machine will suffice?

Your DXU should absolutely fly with AutoCAD right out of the box.
I've been running various flavors of AutoCAD on my laptops going back to my 600E. Maxing the RAM and upgrading my HD always resulted in improvements in rendering far more noticeable than I would have thought possible with a video upgrade.
Enjoy your new baby, sweet unit.

James

I too have been running AutoCAD on my TP's .. initially on a TP765D (98SE and 166MHz MMX / 106MB memory / XGA) .. now on A31p (W-XP, 2GHz / 2GB / UXGA). Runs MUCH better now .. 2D files up to about 8MB.
Am considering moving to Inventor ... should also run well.
Pointing devices are another matter, however. MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer (WIE) is OK .. WIE-II a disappointment with fewer button option settings, and sticky wheel (collects dust)
My Summargraphics Tablet (14 in) with 4-button puck and pen get much less use than anticipated (collects dust).

James, is there still availability for a BXM80532GC2500D? I sure can't find one.

Thanks for the very valuable comments. After a good month of deliberation (T42 and T42p, Dell M70, Toshiba S2, Acer TM8104) I'm finally going to buy it tonight online (newegg - that was I can get it time for my kids spring break when I still need to be getting work done - any issue with buying from them?).
I have a digitizer I forgot that I had until I ran across it in a box the other day. 16-button-puck Summa Sketch III. I've been mousing it for many years now.
Great site! I will no doubt be stopping back in to fine tune my new T42.

Newegg is a reliable seller.
Be sure to come back and see us when you get your new baby.

Sorry for the language lesson Frank, I had a brain fart and confused you with one of our DE members, bocsásson meg.FrankK-F wrote:Am interested in the chip .. ready to buy. If you have .. lets talk.
Of course, now that you've put me on the spot to come up with a source for you, the well's gone dry!
Last time I was looking at these was more than a month ago and it appears that since then they've disappeared. I did find a 2.6GHz for a somewhat reasonable price.

There's tons of Mobile P4s around, but no P4Ms! Go figure.
I'll keep an eye peeled and give you a heads up if I see any.

SolidWorks on Mobility Radeon graphics?
Does anyone have experience running SolidWorks 2004 using the Radeon graphic card? The Fire GL in the T42P is certified by SolidWorks, but it's also more expensive!
