Space bar on R52
Space bar on R52
I have to press the space bar in the middle and take my time typing to get spaces between words .
What could be the issue ,and the fix,if any ?
I had a couple of T60's and did not have this issue.
Again this is an R52 Thinkpad.

Re: Space bar on R52
Probably have some goo stuck in the hinges under the key. Could try cleaning it out, or just replace the whole keyboard.
BTW, the R52 is not a R400/R500 series machine. Maybe one of our kind Moderators will move this to the correct forum.

Can the spacebar be easily removed without damage ?
Re: Space bar on R52
Yes, there is a spring underneath and the spacebar itself just pops off. Lift it up from the rear towards the front. It's a bit hard to describe how to put it back on, but you'll figure it out. Put the spring back in it's slots and then just push down.

Thanks ,I just got back on line .Harryc wrote:Yes, there is a spring underneath and the spacebar itself just pops off. Lift it up from the rear towards the front. It's a bit hard to describe how to put it back on, but you'll figure it out. Put the spring back in it's slots and then just push down.
However while I was away I took the plunge and removed the space bar hoping I wouldn't break something .
I did run into problems and my dexterity isn't great .I tend to shake when doing small parts things .
After removing it and removing it again with the parts stuck on the space bar itself , I managed to get it back in place and working .
I find now the space bar will work better as long as I do not press either side way at the end .
This has only one long metal clip. The videos I have watched also have a center one .
Not sure if it matter on this one or not .
Re: Space bar on R52
If you have to press in the middle to get it to work, the long (spring) is not in both slots.
Re: Space bar on R52
I used to have to press firmly in the middle .Now as long as I do not press way to the ends it will work.Harryc wrote:If you have to press in the middle to get it to work, the long (spring) is not in both slots.
I noticed the space bar also sits up with the rest of the keys better .
This is what it looks like ,The ONLY way the metal clip goes under clips on the keyboard is in this IMG.

Re: Space bar on R52
If you press anywhere on the spacebar it should engage the space. If it does not do that then there is something wrong with the keyboard or the way the spacebar is installed. It could simply be worn ...
