R51 ATI Mobo in 14 inch SXGA+ T40p

#1 Post by ZENPLA » Thu Oct 28, 2010 2:17 am

Hello,
Should an ATI R51 mobo drive a 14 inch SXGA+ LCD in a T40p...

I suspect the same kind of problem as with intel R52 mobo/14 inch SXGA+ ,assuming the HMM states there were never 14 inch R51 lcd(only XGA)...

The reason is i have a dead mobo on T40p and at the same time i plan to make a Frankenpad by installing R52 MB in a R51 15 inch /Flexview ATI mobo...
So the idea is to use the Ati R51 mobo to revive the T40p .

If you think it works, does it with the original cable and inverter from T40p lcd...
Thank you very much for your advices..

Best Regards from FRANCE

Eric

A 14" Intel R51 Intel board will not drive an SXGA+ LCD. I know this from personal experience.

Yes Harric,
I totally agree with you,BUT here it's an ATI 9OOO R51 Mobo, not an intel based one...
To reformulate the question,if R51 ATI Mobo could drive a 14 inch SXGA+ LCD ....
best regards

All T4x and R5x ATI mobos can drive an SXGA+ screen (14.1" and 15").
The R52 mobo with Intel GPU (but NOT a T43 with Intel GPU) can also drive a 15" SXGA+ (but NOT a 14.1").

But I got a T43 with Intel GPU to drive a 14.1" SVGA+ screen. Last time I heard it was still working fine.

Could you possibly share how you accomplished this feat?

I did a straight screen swap. I ordered the SVGA+ cable and it would not work. I put the standard VGA cable back it and it worked fine. Now the only thing that trouble me is the SVGA vs: SVGA+. Am I getting things mixed up?

After loading the correct drivers the screen displayed "1400xXXXX just fine. I can get the new owner to do a screen shot of the properties for the motherboard and screen and report back.

I was hoping to install an R52 Intel GPU board into my T43p with SVGA+...perhaps now that is not possible?

You need to straighten out your screen resolutions!
It's XGA = 1024x768 or SXGA+ = 1400x1050 or UXGA = 1600x1200
SXGA = 1280x1024 is available mainly on desktop monitors, not on laptops.
VGA, SVGA or SVGA+ LCDs on Thinkpads do not exist (at least not in the last 10 years or so).

And the R52 with Intel GPU mobo only works with SXGA+ on 15" LCDs.

Got it...

The conversion I did was 1400x1050...will try to get screen shots. It was donated to a lady who lost her house to a fire. This might take a little time.
