T43p w/ R52 ATI X300 Motherboard...will not charge

#1 Post by billp117 » Fri Oct 29, 2010 7:47 pm

I installed this board and it worked perfect except for charging. The ac adapter does not light up any lights and will not charge. Any suggestion? Sounds like maybe a blown fuse to me. I did check the 16vdc plug and it has continuity...not sure what I missed on the board swap.

You are most likely being too hard on yourself. I'd bet on the "new" board having the issue in question before the swap.

No lights come on when you power up the laptop, or are you talking about the battery charge light only? There really is nothing to 'miss' as far as charging. It either works or it doesn't, in which case it is either the battery, a fuse on the board, or a problem with the charging circuitry on the systemboard.

Yes...I think the seller must have known something. I bought the board on eBay and it was guaranteed to work. The seller was nice enough to say "just keep the board and I will refund your money. The folllowing day I created a TR451 and it went pretty smooth and works fine. I must agree the board may have been defective all along. If you just plug in a fresh battery it will run perfect. Plugging in an ac adapter does nothing and fixing that problem is next to impossible for me.

I will continue the hunt for the a good working T43p motherboard as I really want to use the SVGA+ screen. Windows 7 looks wonderful. I cannot benchmark it because Windows 7 requires the ac adapter be plugged in...but I understand it should post about 3.9 for video and Aero.

Thanks for the input fellows...much appreciated.
