IBM ThinkPad R40 Main Battery

I have a new battery in my ThinkPad R40 and have the latest Power management installed and sometimes it shows the battery at 100% and after an hour the battery icon turns white with a red X on it. The laptop don't power on from the battery. Always have to have it pluged in on the AC to use it. Same Problem on my ThinkPad G40 with a new battery too.

Can I venture a guess that both of these are Chinese knock-offs and not genuine IBM/Lenovo stuff?

The G40 battery is a Energizer I bought from RadioShack. and the R40 says IBM on it with the yellow and black color tape like you see on all ThinkPad brand batterys. How do I tell this is a china battery?

I also get this message from lenovo. The battery was completely discharged.
