T41 Touchpad Button Lacks Travel or Springiness

#1 Post by ParatoOptimal » Sun Oct 31, 2010 10:26 pm

The bottom, left touchpad button of my T41 is mushy, lacks travel distance, doesn't depress much and does't spring back much. Is this a common problem? Is there an inexpensive fix?
Thanks

You can try to blow out the crumbs that are probably under the button(s).
The mechanism could have broken and/or the rubber/silicon cup underneath has deteriorated.
If cleaning doesn't fix it, you can either replace the touchpad/buttons http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Thinkpad-T40-T4 ... 0519016660
or replace the whole palmrest.
