T510 partitioning info prior to purchase (update)

#1 Post by Ramius » Tue Nov 02, 2010 11:37 am

I'm planning to purchase a T510 and have a question.

How are the 2 partitions arranged on the drive, the main OS and the HPA. I will be dual booting Debian and Win 7. I would like to know if the HPA is at the beginning or end, also are they both primary partitions ?

Thanks, Bob

I happened to see an L512 a few hours ago and it had 3 primary partitions. 1- hidden- HPA ? 2 - Win 7 and 3 - Q: also hidden. If this is the same for T510 how dangerous would it be to shrink Part # 2 and create extended partition for Linux. rh

Beware ... partition Q is there to allow you to create recovery media. Once creating the disks is done the Q partition disappears and is allocated to the C drive.

You could always image the drive before you make any changes to it; that way if something messes up you can go ahead and restore the recovery partition to it's rightful place.
