How to make recovery DVD?

#1 Post by What » Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:30 pm

Hi, I just received my Lenovo t510 in the mail. It is my first Lenovo. I love the actual machine but the Lenovo bloatware is really ugly and feels messy to me.

How do I make a recovery DVD so I can attempt to install XP or Win7 free of all that stuff, without risking messing the machine up?

thanks!

Just go ahead and Uninstall components from the Add/Remove Programs list. You can't actually restore a copy without the extra stuff; it's a system image. IMHO, it's better to start with a Lenovo EE'd version of Windows 7 and uninstall bloatware than it is to start from scratch and install drivers.

@What: To make the recovery set you will require a minimum of 3 disks.

The first need only be a CD as it won't contain a huge number of files. It will only be used to boot up the recovery system.

The remaining disks need to be DVDs. You could use CDs but you'd need rather a lot of them!

Go to "Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools" and select "Factory Recovery Disks". Then follow the simple instructions.

Advice: Don't forget to label your disks. You can only create one set of disks.

That's about it. :)

No problem, matey. I hope you enjoy your T510. I love mine!

One thing I don't understand is why you think the Lenovo stuff is bloatware. Things like System Update and Rescue & Recovery are really useful. Access Connections works well for me, Airbag Protection of the HDD is really amazing, and Password Vault saves me from forgetting my passwords.
If you go to Taskmgr and have a look at system usage these extras don't take anything away unless, for example, R&R is doing a backup.

I just have OCD and have a severe need to have a 'blank slate' like you get when you build your own desktop. Maybe I should have gotten a Sager or something. :( We'll see... I'm hoping I can be happy with the Lenovo.. they are sexy!
