you can select, in your profile, to be notified when there is a new post, in a thread/confrence, etc., that you have an interest in..

Being notified of new topics in an existing forum is what I was referring to but it seems it's not possible, oh well.

only way is to drop in and see what is flagged as new and unread by you..
