FRU# 91P7315 is an Integrated Bluetooth with 56K Modem (BMDC) for X31. FRU# 39T0022 is an Integrated Bluetooth IV with 56K Modem (BMDC-3) for X32. The second card would be best, but I do not know if it would run without posting an error. Someone else would have to confirm that...or try a forum search.

Note: If you're going to ask another 'best for' an X31 question please post it here instead of starting several 'best for' threads.

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/IBM_Integ ... m_(BMDC-3)

I've a 39T0026 , that supposedly is just a more recent revision of the 39T0022, installed in my x31, and had absolutely no issues.

Obviously had to install the bluetooth drivers found under the x32 section of the ibm website, and had to install the modem manually from one of the packages found under the x32.
Aside this, I repeat no issues no warnings no etc.

BUT

I updated the bios and embedded controller to the latest version prior to do the operation....

Mmm, in a way I'm wrong. I have one issue, or I should say annoyance.

If I link a bluetooth headphone, the audio is not nice.. full of holes (transferring files etc etc works normally).

Did you NOT have that problem with an older card?
Wouldn't IBM update install the newer drivers for you?
Where did you find the embedded controller driver?

There was no older card present... I'm not sure if it's an issue related to the drivers, or if it's due to the place where I put the bluetooth antenna (under the keyboard). It works perfectly, including transferring files (the speed shown is correct).. just if linked with a bluetooth earphone, the audio is like 1 second yes, one second no.

The drivers installed are the latest version, but if I remember right are some years old. And could be that someone discussed about them back then (about not be optimal for audio streaming), speaking also of a third party bluetooth commercial driver that could be used instead (but this is all I sort of remember).

As for the embedded controller... did it around the end of 2006, and unfortunately don't remember anymore if I've downloaded it from the ibm website alongside with the bios, or if I've used the older ibm update software (that now is discontinued).

Of all the listings on ebay, I've found only one that comes with a cool antenna.
Most come with no antenna and a few come with just a wire with a connector to the card and another connector in the middle and or other end of the wire.
The one listing with what looks like a true antenna designed by IBM looks like it connects to the hinge.

The original ibm part (antenna related) is near the left hinge (you can see a black plastic part some centimeters long, and a cm high). Inside is empty, and the antenna fits inside.

Normally the empty one is substituted with one with the antenna fixed inside. I think there's a bit of work involved to remove the screws that keeps it in place (and that's the main reason I've opted for adding an antenna under the keyboard... I'm lazy).

mmmm, for some reasons seems I messed posting the reply, yesterday.

That antenna is from a T40 (original part, I suppose), so I'm not sure how easy is to fit inside an X31.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-802-11a-b-g-Min ... 4430wt_752

i used this one in a couple of x32's. it's paper thin and it'll slide right under the palm rest. don't slide it in too far or it'll stick out in the battery compartment. the wire's a little long i coiled it up under the keyboard and taped it. i had it under the keyboard first and the metal backing of the keyboard blocked the signal somewhat. no metal under the palmrest. i also used a bluetooth card from an x41 and it worked fine with no errors. i don't remember the fru number but i used 3 of them. i used the x41 driver for it. never used bluetooth headphones but everything else works fine.
