What system board for x60?

#1 Post by thelostartof » Fri Nov 05, 2010 6:28 am

So as of late my x60 Systemboard has failed, I have tested all other parts in another working machine and everything points to a system board. How do I know what system board will work with my system? Or will any system board work and I can just install my CPU/Memory and cards? I have found prices on boards anywhere from $120-700 and I am wondering which to get.

Any X60 systemboard would physically fit, but I'd assume that you want the same CPU or better in a replacement board? If you want to get the exact board for your machine, see the FRU# on the sticker on the memory slot as in this picture.

Couldn't I just swap my CPU into the new system board?

Nope, X60 CPU's (all X series in fact) are soldered to the systemboard.

Wow really? I did not know that, I swear I saw a socket on mine when I pulled it apart a few years ago to clean out the inspect the Fan/Heatsink.

well good and bad to know, Thanks.

Is there a list of what system boards and what spec CPU they have? So what is the top of the line board I can fit in mine?

well after opening up the case and checking out the FRU it looks like it would be more cost effective to just buy a new X series vs replacing the board. Sucks but I guess that is life. $500-700 for a replacement system board is just insane.

As I said, any X60 board will work. I do not know what you have today, because you haven't told us, but if you're willing to settle this board would work -

Note: If you are going to get a used board, get one with at least 7 days return warranty so that you have time to test it.

42w7691, ebay does seem cheaper than else where I am just worried about dealing with returns with some place overseas on an as is part that they do not know if it works with only a 7 day return policy when it takes longer than that for it to ship here and back.

Good excuse to get a new one tho I just need to find the funds.

Might be easier to buy a new one.
I got an x60+dock+8cell battery for 203 dollars shipped from ebay last week.
