T40 Wireless Problem

#1 Post by sluggo33x » Sat Nov 06, 2010 3:41 am

I've just turned on my T40 after a couple of years of sitting in the cupboard and cannot get connected via wireless.

It's running Windows 2000 with a Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter (Driver 3.8.26.0). It originally came with Aironet Client Utility, but i installed ThinkVantage Access Connections 5.12 this morning. I also installed .NET 1.1

I can see my network when i do a 'find wifi' using ThinkVantage, but when i try and configure the network settings i'm running into trouble. In the 'Wireless Security Type' drop down box, there is only the following options:
-None
-Use static wep keys
-Use 802.1x eap cisco (leap)
-Use 802.1x eap cisco (eap-fast)

However on my T60 (which is now broken) i have 'use wifi protected access-pre shared key(wpa-psk)' which i used to set the network key.

No matter what option i use on the T40, it won't authenticate the wireless connection...any ideas?

Not sure, but it may be that Win2K does not support WPA on that card. Maybe this will help.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Methinks your wifi card is a bit outdated and does not support beyond WEP.
Get e.g. an Intel 2200BG (or any card with 802.11 g, bg, abg, bgn, gn or abgn), preferably one with in IBM P/N or FRU.
Update the drivers, and you should be good to go.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
