Sticky keys on keyboard

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sat Nov 06, 2010 11:17 pm

Sticky Keys on some of my ThinkPads. Not talking about the handicap sticky key function but the keys are sticky as like something was spilt on it like sodapop. I tryed cleaning the keys by removing the key and cleaning the entire inside key and around the rubber cap and still get the stickyness. Any ideas?

I found a solution, you must remove the plastic key holder aswell and clean under it, must be carefull not to brake any pcs off the plastic key holder. I used 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and a Qtip.

This is why I love the US. There are still places where folks call soda, sodapop. LOL 8)

I had once a similar issue with my ex-X31, which also had some sticky keys from spilled coke of coffee. I just took away the keyboard and washed it with hot water under the kitchen's sink. Let it dry a couple of hours and voila! Problem solved

No, I did two cleanings like that so far with no issues. Just keep the cable out of the water stream. I've read somewhere here people putting KBs in the dishwasher! :|

You remove the keyboard from the electrics. Then you protect the electrical connector with cling film. Then you wash the keyboard and dry it thoroughly before refitting it. It is a good idea to dry the keyboard in a warm, dry environment to make sure there is no water left on the device before reconnecting and refitting.

We use soda for cleaning the sink or washing really mucky clothes. It's a good idea to wear rubber gloves when using soda. I have no idea why anyone would want to drink it. That said, I have heard of whisky and soda but that is just fizzy, salty water. Again, I have no idea why anyone would want to drink it.
