Windows XP Repair Mode

#1 Post by pogacsa » Mon Nov 08, 2010 3:06 am

hi,

I am in a serious trouble while upgrade my Symantec NIS 2010 to 2011. Started the install, and after reboot my laptop became a Zombia, as unable to login anymore. Only into safe mode. With Symantec support we cleaned up all Symantec, Norton products, files, and registry entries. But still unable to boot in normal mode. Also made all non-Microsoft services off with msconfig.
There was an idea to boot from XP Pro Boot CD, go to installation, and select Repair Mode. Maybe it will copy over some important DLL and similar to fix the boot in procedure. Unfortunatelly with my Thinkpad z61m does not have a windows CD, just the Vendor Diagnostics partition on my hard drive.
I have a desktop with XP Pro as well, and it has an OEM boot media, but on Thinkpad it is not finding the harddrive. And I am not sure how good idea is repairing an installed XP-SP3 with a SP2 boot CD.
What do you think? Any hints?

thanx,
Zol

Have you tried falling back to an earlier restore point in XP safe mode? I don't think you'll have much luck with a repair without an actual XP install disk. Surely you can borrow one.
