Where'd my webcam go? Z61t

#1 Post by sparta.rising » Thu Nov 11, 2010 1:03 am

I have a case of disappearing webcams that has me stumped. My z61t is a webcam model and it used to work, but today I went to use a webcam application and the webcam wasn't detected. I'm running Windows 7 and I checekd "Devices and Printers" (where it used to be) and Device Manager and its not in either. I took apart eh screen bezel to make sure the cable was still attached and it was. So I thought maybe I broke the webcam or cable broke when I replaced my LCD screen. So I went to check my other z61t, also a webcam model, that's running Vista. Its webcam isn't detected either. What the heck? One webcam or cable going faulty? Sure. Two? Less likely. Any idea if there is some way of enable/disabling the webcam?

Now that I think of it, when I cracked my machines display the inverter died when sitting on my desk, so maybe something funky went down on my desk and killed it. I opened up the other z61t to steal its inverter... maybe I killed the webcam them as well?

Gosh I hope its software and not hardware. I don't want to have to track down webcams and then lcd cables. Especially when the value of the machine is dropping so fast.
