Replaced Hinges, now laptop very slow/freezes
Replaced Hinges, now laptop very slow/freezes
When one of the hinges snapped on my T43p a while back, I decided to replace both. I didn't realize the amount of disassembly involved to get at these things. Well, after a careful reassembly, the laptop doesn't work! It'll freeze during startup, or eventually start up (after ten minutes maybe) and act very weird. The best way I could describe it is that its acting like a ten year old computer on its last leg. I opened it back up, checked all the connections, and looked for anything abnormal. Couldn't find anything. The only thing that worried me was that the screen didn't go back together as smoothly as it came apart. The antennae, hinges, and screen all fit pretty tightly. Any ideas as to what I did?!?! What should I look for? Everything worked fine before the operation. The broken hing was the one with the wires going through it, so I had to fix it or else the wires would have ripped sooner or later. Thank you!

Sure does. You must have flexed the systemboard while working on it.

And I thought I screwed up the monitor. That works fine. OK...an update: It you push down pretty hard on either side of the palm rest, or either side of the keyboard (the thin plastic strips), the computer works fine. Actually, if you press on the keyboard, it works, too. Of course, that's incredibly annoying, and will break more stuff eventually. I just can't believe I screwed up to the board...I was so careful! My desktop board took much more installation abuse! Thank you for the replies.

That sounds indeed very much like a ballsed-up Southbridge.
