Blue vertical lines on R52 LCD screen

#1 Post by icecold1001 » Sat Nov 13, 2010 6:35 am

Hi,

I have a R52 model type - 1847-NA1. It has a 15' 1024x768 LCD and 64MB ATI Radeon X300. Lately, it has developed a blue vertical line in the middle of LCD screen. Tested on external display and there is no problem. So I am guessing that the LCD screen is the issue. Am I right or does it have something to do with the LCD inverter or something else that I have not considered?

If it is the LCD, I am thinking of swapping a SXGA+ screen in it. Can my machine support it? Do I need to buy anything other than the screen, eg. LCD cable? Also, can I use a LCD screen from the T4x models?

Thanks for any advice.

It's a faulty LCD.
Your machine supports SXGA+. You will also need to get an SXGA+ LCD-cable.
The inverter is the same for XGA and SXGA+.
You can use 15" LCDs from any other T4x or R5x machines.

Thanks for your advice.

I am tying to change the LCD on my own. Do you or anyone has a good idea how to remove the rubber covers over the screws without damaging them too much? Or do I need to get a new set of rubber covers?

Since my R52 has been around for sometime, is it wise to replace with a brand new LCD or a used one?

I use a needle or safety pin to get those screw covers off.
Save them on some piece of antistatic plastic, so you can reuse them later.
If you can afford it, a new one would be nice.
Usually it's the backlight that stops working. The rest has no problems.
If you buy used, make sure there are no dead pixels, scratches and pressure marks on the screen.
