T23 Battery Life

#1 Post by t-rex » Sat Nov 13, 2010 8:06 am

I have two T23s 1.2ghz 1gb ram XP Pro that I use for data logging for extended periods. until recently i used a
power inverter but with some new hardware that is no longer possible. I like the X100 but I doubt i could find drivers
to run XP Pro and it has no serial port which I also need. But I really like the T23 it does everything I need it too until now,
battery life. Does anyone know what the expected life was with a new oem IBM battery? I'm getting 50 mins now not near enough. I have tried rebuilt batterys and not had much luck. Was looking at a generic replacement 5500mah with
a 3 year warranty and a new oem Ultrabay 3200mah battery any one have a rough guesstimate how much time that would buy me?

With a relativity new main battery, and the battery above, AND NHC with everything throttled I can approach 3 hours on a T30

NHC = http://www.pbus-167.com/

That is with the LCD on all the time, if you kill the LCD or dim it all the way down, Im thinking 3 hours would be a pretty good rule.
There is also a factory 12 volt dc to 16 volt IBM charger out there, but I have destroyed 2 of them. I use an inverter from 12 to 120, them my regular charger for very long car trips.

YMMV

Your best bet is a T30 battery which has a slightly larger capacity.
They fit in the T2x models (but the T2x battery does NOT fit in a T30).

A new one should give you about 3-3.5 hours, maybe more if you 'tune' things down.
Never tried the UB battery.

There is also the X30/X31/X32's, they do not have a serial port, but you could add a plug in card to get it back. I highly tuned an X31 for my LD son, for his use at school. Without the wireless card running, he can get 8 hours out of the X31 dual battery set up.

I have a knock around X31 machine that I use at home, both batteries are in the red, both batteries post "need replaced"....it does more than 3 hours all the time.
