How to use classic Windows
So I've been using Windows 7 for a good while and Im still running Windows XP on most of my ThinkPads. I know how to use set to Classic Windows, witch bringing me back to the style of Windows 95,98,ME & 2000. On my Windows 7 im using Internet Explorer 9. how can I switch to Windows XP style? I like the old XP out of any of the other Windows really. Is there a file I can copy or even download from Microsoft and add to Windows themes? I remember back in early 2001-2005 I was able to download a theme called Royal Theme. In the list of "Windows XP themes" it has classic, custom, Windows XP, Royal, or Other.
Classic, witch you already know, custom, change colors of your windows, Windows XP, sets to the factory set style, royal, set the standard Windows XP to a rich style version with a new bliss wallpaper.

Re: How to use classic Windows
I only spent a little while searching the Web for this topic, and found nothing helpful. Microsoft made it difficult to customise "classic" themes in Windows 6. It is one of the control panels which clash with the rest of the OS. In Windows 2000, one can save a custom appearance scheme (specifically, this is what I miss). In Windows XP, one sets the appearance details, and on the "Themes" tab, one can save a custom theme (however, this never worked for me! Any time I tried using a saved theme results with error "not a valid theme file".).
From Windows 95/98 Plus, I always liked the "Travel" theme. It is brown. Nobody attack me! I am tired of reading immature complains about Ubuntu because its default theme was brown (not so, anymore). My desk is brown (wood), I like it, and so is my PC GUI theme.
What I ended up doing was going through the appearance details of Windows 98 and taking note of every colour value. On the PC running Windows 6/Longhorn/Vista, I manually specified all of those values. I do not know how to save the configuration, so if anything goes wrong and changes appearance, then I will have to set all the details again. And that has already happened once: something I installed went ahead and reverted the theme to the plan-old look, so I toiled for a few minutes to get my beautiful brown back.

Re: How to use classic Windows
If I find my Royal theme driver, somewhere on my flash drive drivers folder. I have alot of drivers to search through as it has alot of ThinkPad and windows drivers. I'll try installing it.
I remember the backgrounds of each Windows. Win95 was a turquoise blank background, Win98 was a navy blue, WinME was a sky blue as it goes for Win2000 too. Windows XP was the first bliss background. and WinVista was this one. http://files.myopera.com/ZAHEK/albums/2 ... lpaper.jpg
atleast my Home basic had this on it.

Re: How to use classic Windows
Well I installed the Windows XP Royale Theme, And it worked kinda. Windows 7 reads it after it installed and found it under the Themes. but no green start and no blue windows bar with the red x in the top corner. It did change the background to the new Bliss and the start is like classic box button. I'll take a pic to show what it looks like.

There are unofficial ports like this one. I have no idea how you install it, you probably have to replace system files.

Update on changing your windows 7 to XP.
So I inserted my Windows XP CD and also had my ThinkPad SL500 next to me. I copied the bliss wallpaper and got all the Windows XP sounds such as Windows startup and shudown sound. I even copied the XP Icons such as My Computer, My Network, My Documents and Recycle Bin. Im still searching everywhere in system files to change the task bar to the orginal blue with the Green START Button. The themes if looking for them are located in same way on Windows 7 C:/Windows/Resources/Themes witch this houses your Windows themes, like Bliss, Royal and classic
I think the download of thirdparty "XP theme for 7" is for people that don't own the XP software CD, witch really to me I don't trust downloading thirdparty software. Such as for ThinkPad drivers. I ONLY download from the lenovo site. I've sent Microsoft a few emails to see if they would make a Windows XP Theme, like the Classic Theme of earlier Windows, for download on there site.
