A 720C with issues.

#1 Post by Unknown_K » Mon Nov 15, 2010 9:14 pm

I got in a nice old Thinkpad 720c today (last of the ps/2 series laptops I think). The machine came with its power brick, looks in decent condition, and best of all the ESDI HD (160MB) seems to work. My issue with it is the screen (color dual scan), it looks wavy and the text is not that bright plus after a while the text goes away but the backlight is still there. I took the cover off and all cables seem intact, is the LCD about dead then?

I think you've probably already concluded that it is by now! Perhaps a dry connection somewhere that's easing apart as it warms up? I'd dismantle it and remove & reconnect all cables, and check the screen flexi data cable for cracking.

My recollection is hazy but the 720C was a TFT model, but I think it was limited to 256 colours; I believe it was a very different panel to that in the 750C that replaced it.
