Optimus is a switchable/hybrid graphics technology whereby you can run solely on the power-saving Intel GPU instead of the power hungry NVidia GPU when on battery power.

Good battery life can still be obtained without it, although the quad-core would chew up a fair bit more power than an i7-620M.
