T43 w/ ATI X300: Use Win7 drivers or Lenova drivers?

#1 Post by catback » Fri Nov 19, 2010 1:10 pm

Hi,

I have a T43 with the ATI Radeon X300 video card. I recently installed Windows 7 and after running a Windows update, noticed that it installed it's own video drivers for this card. It seems to work fine but am wondering if I should still install the video drivers from the Lenova website. Any additional features/performance to be gained by using the Lenova drivers?

What is the maximum resolution available via the laptop's VGA port?

Does the ATI X300 offer hardware acceleration on the T43?

There are no Lenovo W7 drivers for a T43, with the exception of the UltraNav Driver.

You're correct. I have the 2668 version which only lists video drivers for XP/Vista. So is it safe to assume that the only video drivers available for Win7 are those installed by running Windows Update?

I suppose you can use Vista driver also. Works fine on Windows 7 - at least with FireGL V3200, which is lightly modified Radeon X600. Vista driver contains ATI Control Panel, where you can set up / tune many features provided by the card. With driver from Windows Update you can't.

While many say they are for Vista, there are at least 8 drivers to download from Lenovo for a T43 for use with Windows 7. Several do specifically mention Windows 7 support.

I wrote a guide for Windows 7 on the T43, and I downloaded quite a bit from Lenovo.

After installing Windows 7, I downloaded and installed drivers for these from Lenovo:

Winbond Trusted Platform
System Interface Driver
Power Management Driver
HotKey Driver & Apps
ThinkVantage Active Protection System
UltraNav Driver
Power Manager
Intel WiFi Drivers & Apps

The ATI X300 drivers are from Windows Updates.

Also, ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 (Windows 7 only), works great with the T43 to find Windows 7-compatible driver and software updates:

Drivers can use the Mobility Radeon

ATi Catalyst Mobility 10.10 Win 7 | Vista (64-bit)

ATi Catalyst Mobility 10.10 Win 7 | Vista (32-bit)
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/ ... dd_ccc.exe

One thing ...
Bluetooth bothering me. Although drivers are installed and not to enable mobile communication, an external speaker.
T43p - 2,13Ghz, 2GB x 1, 80GB Hitachi, Win7 Pro
T41 -1,6Ghz, 512MB x 2, 40GB Hitachi, Win XP Pro
