T61p - problem with quadro fx 570m

#1 Post by fr3ak » Sat Nov 20, 2010 11:11 am

Hello,

I'm not much of a gamer but there is one game i could play all the time - starcraft 2. First time i installed it, my computer wouldn't handle it and it turned off all the time when i was playing. I went to the lenovo service and then they replaced fan. When i got my computer back i launched sc2, and i had the same problem. I brought back my notebook to the service and they told my that it was a software problem and i should reinstal the original system(i was using win7, originaly installed was windows vista). I did like they told me, and i still had a problem. I tried every driver i could find but it didn't help. Then i tried every possible operating system i could think of(winxp, vista, win7, even ubuntu with wine) every time i had the same problem - computer turned off during the game.

Did anyone had similar problem or have any idea what can i do besides throwing laptop from the window?

Is the computer blue-screening when you begin the game? If so, this is a well known issue with the T61p with 2 memory DIMMS and 3D apps/games. Try taking out one of the memory DIMMS and see if it still crashes.

get tpfancontrol installed. Prior to starting the game use the app to manually turn your fan speed to maximum and see if that helps. Your probably turning off because of overheating the GPU. Keep at it and you'll fry the GPU. If you're not in waranty, that will be an expensive fix.

Figured I would leave my 1 and a half cent in here. Io have no problems with mine. Although I don't have the 4gb problem I think that might be your case. Sc2 runs great here!
