A21M Ethernet problem

#1 Post by Xecutor » Sat Nov 20, 2010 5:25 pm

Just recieved a a21m, comes with a 3com 10/100 mini pci card. Also has a linksys WPC11 V3 card as well.

I wanted Slackware on it, but started having problems and decided to try windows xp.

For the ethernet: Drivers installed fine but no connection at all. Does not even detect the wire is plugged in, no lights blinking or anything. I figured it might be a ACPI issue, but no idea how to work with those.

For the wireless(not as important): It does the same thing it did in Linux, can find the networks but won't connect to it. Even with completely opened it still will not connect.

thanks in advance, curse

also, its sp3 windows xp.

update: wireless is working

just gotta get this ethernet working. Looking into a possible firmware maybe? Not sure.. I messed with all possible bios options I seen. and unchecked the "turn device off to save power option" on this card config.

Welcome to the forum!

What's the 7-character model number on the bottom of the machine, should be something like 2628-???

This should be the correct LAN driver, follow the installation instructions since it's a two-step process.

Did you go to C>Drivers>Win>Ethernet and ran the setup file from there?

yes card is identified just no connection, no errors, etc.

when I did research the problems that came up was with power management, but I have no idea.

cable is fine, used/using it on another computer. :??:

Can you post the part number of the card? While you are looking, do you have two sets of cables plugged into your card?

It is possible to have a modem only card but not have the stick on cover blocking the Lan port that would be built in but not wired to a card.

Good luck.

Post in the classifieds and you may find a card for the cost of shipping.

Model 3cn3ac1556b

however the ethernet port is a metal while the 56k is black plastic, I wonder if this was after market or standard. If after market, the actual plugin could be the culprit.
