Mobility Radeon 7500 + Windows 7 = working solution FOUND!

I was diffing around and found this:

I have successfully loaded the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 Driver from the SP27665 (an HP/Compaq driver file). I have a Compaq EVO N800c. The install does not work, however it will extract the files to: C:\swsetup\SP27665\Driver\2KXP_INF. Then under Device Manager choose to Update Driver (under the Generic VGA) , select Brows My Computer; choose Let Me Pick, say Have Disk and browse to the above folder ( C:\swsetup\SP27665\Driver\2KXP_INF). 2 options appeared for me, I chose the first, my system start dinging and flashing a few times (around 10) and then all was normal. I did not say to reboot, but I tested Freecell and it said there was no hardware acceleration still, so then I did a reboot and presto! no more message about Hardware acceleration being disabled and the cards fanned out in there fancy way. I've only done this about 5 minutes ago, so I don't know how things will function long term, although I've also only been running 7 for about an hour... Hope this helps.

I had to restart right after (prompted me this) and had to change to 32bit colour manually.

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate to my Radeon 7500 equipped T42 and these drivers worked OK, even played 720p HD videos very fine in Youtube. Aero obviously don't work, but Direct3D works OK. Didn't try OpenGL. On 3DMark2001SE it gave around 4000 points which is in the ballpark compared to XP (few hundred points down). GTA Vice City worked also flawlessly for an hour or so.
No BSOD's or anything unusual, resume from sleep etc work.

If you download the XP driver for the 7500 from the Lenovo website and run the executable so that it creates a folder on c:\drivers\win\display. Once that is done go into device manager and click on the Standard VGA adapter and right click to update the driver software. When prompted, browse for driver software on your computer and point to the folder on c: drive. It should automatically find your 7500 driver and will allow things like 3d text etc to work in screensavers, and other video settings. I have found that this method works for a lot of peripherals that Win7 does not recognize automatically and the only driver you have is XP or Vista.

I have tried IBM XP driver and it doesn't work properly (at least it didn't on my case). If you try to play youtoube videos full screen, computer would BSOD.
No such problem with aforementioned driver.

I'm not having that problem (BSOD), and hope I don't get it. I'm mostly satisfied with WIN7 but I don't like the way I have to manually search for a driver especially when the OS claims that it will search my computer for the right driver, but it never seems to find the right one.

This solution is working for me on my T41 with ATi 7500 and Windows 7 Professional

These solutions didn't work for mty T30-2366 91U with Windows 91 Ultimate. I was unable to upgrade <Display Adaptor> from standard VGA graphics adaptor, and also the <Monitor> from generic Non-PnP monitor. Could you please advise what to do.

This thread only applies to T4x/R5x series machine, not to your T30 which is of a different generation.

I was able to get the Radeon 7500 working on the T30 using a slightly different method.

The device was recognized as a standard VGA adapter. If I just said:

Update Driver -> Choose Directory

Device Manager would tell me it already had the best driver.

I had to select the choice which said "Have Disk" and then I had
to navigate, not just to the directory, but to a specific inf file.

Edit: Let me clarify this step. Click on the choice which says,
"Let me pick from a list of device drivers in my system." Then,
on the resulting dialog, click on "Have Disk." Then, navigate to
the inf file that was installed by the ATI/AMD device driver update
program, somewhere in C:\swsetup, as described in the earlier post.

This step seems to be necessary in order to force Windows to recognize
the hardware as a Radeon 7500 rather than a generic VGA.

Once I selected the file, I had to then select the specific device. There
were several identical choices for "Radeon Mobility 7500" on the dropdown,
I just selected one at random.

I then had to dismiss the warning that this was a bad idea, because Windows
couldn't verify that the driver was correct.

After all this, everything worked.

Both Microsoft and AMD should be ashamed at what they put their customers through.
