I have a 2629-HWU that is an A21p. The unit works except it shuts down after 5 minutes or so, is that from over heating? I checked the CPU and there is a small amount of thermal paste there, not dried out, fan seems to work and the heatsink gets warm.

That small removable board the LCD cable connects to, is it the same part for all the A2x series? The one I got on mine had the lid closed relay broken off so I used the board from an A22M to replace it.

I guess the P model only works correctly with the 1600x1200 screen? I tried a 15" 1024x768 but it didnt look correct (most of the screen was missing).

For an UXGA screen you need the appropriate cable and inverter. The same holds true for XGA and SXGA+.

A2x series are tricky, but you do have the most powerful motherboard that was out there, so you can run any screen if the above conditions are met.

These machines tend to suffer from BOD as well as from many "unexplained" yet terminal illnesses.
