Thinkpad T40 unable to factory restore

#1 Post by tkexer » Wed Nov 24, 2010 3:48 am

I have 4 Thinkpad T40 Recovery CDs. When I booted up from CD 1, it loads the IBM Product Recovery screen, but after continuing, it presents Error #1829: Free space not found.

It currently has Ubuntu 9.04 LTS installed on a 40GB HDD with a small swap partition. No other partitions can be seen using GParted.

It seems, that IBM's R&R software can't find compatible filesystem on your HDD - Linux uses another filesystems. Try to format whole HDD with NTFS first.

The recovery CD for must be ancient.

Just go with a Windows XP SP3 disc. More up to date, less patching needed, etc.
