The CD Drive and Hard Drive on my R400 are both broken. I'm trying to buy replacements for both of them, but it seems like there are a lot of different model numbers out there on CD Drives in particular. My question then is, how can I tell which CD Drive models etc. are compatible with my computer? Is there one standard size/interface that most thinkpads use? Or should I stick to the exact model that came with it? (For reference, it says "Model No. UJDA782" on the drive).
Thanks.
R400 Replacement Parts (CD Drive, HDD)
Re: R400 Replacement Parts (CD Drive, HDD)
You want to buy a Thinkpad part because of the eject mechanism, an off the shelf optical drive won't fit properly. You might be able to swap the bezels, but the drives are fairly cheap on eBay. You can use both the R series and T series drive, but because the drives are slimmer on the T series, there'll be a small gap between the top of the drive and the bay. Anyway the part numbers for the R400 are:
DVD - 42T2533 or 42T2919
CDRW/DVD - 42T2535 or 42T2521
DVDRW - 42T2537 or 42T2523
BDR - 42T2539
The R400 uses a standard 2.5" SATA drive. Most SATA drives should work.
