which newer model thinkpad?

#1 Post by gychang » Thu Nov 25, 2010 1:55 pm

It is black friday time and my trusty T42 has a MB that is burnt out... Main use is at home with surfing, occasional photoshop, no gaming.

I want a nonglare screen (like T42) size is flexible CPU, with HDMI connection, N wifi, HDMI are preferrable. Can someone recommend a model I should be looking at?, have about $500 to spend.

I forgot to add I do not need optical drive, but will like to have 14" or larger matte screen.

thanks,

gychang

i just helped my mother pick out a nice r400 thinkpad from the lenovo outlet. nice specs that would fit most of what you describe, except no hdmi. just a bit over $500 and delivered in 3 business days.

The 15" models tend to be cheap as heck for some reason. An R500 (did they make those) or T500 would be ideal for your needs, if you could find one.

R500 can be had for around 200 to 300 USD if you look hard enough. They are not exactly portable, so lot of people people whom bought it and carries it around on their daily commute, would soon part with it due to the weight and size of these machines. The 14.1 inch models tend to fetch better price.

Personally, i like the R400 a lot, since they use the same top screen casing as the T400, they are a cheaper T series alternative.
