T410 Random Hibernation

#1 Post by bradsh » Fri Nov 26, 2010 9:18 am

Every now and then my T410 completely randomly decides the battery is critically drained, and then proceeds to immediately hibernate. It does this no matter what the level of battery available, it has done it at 80%, 90% 40%... and then when I immediately resume power, Windows warns me that the system was hibernated because the battery was at a critical level.

Any ideas? I don't even know how to approach this extremely annoying problem. This thinkpad has been a disaster since day one :(

My T60 does this when its battery overheats. It never happened with the original battery, though.

Does it happen when on AC (battery attached)? What about AC only?

Are all of your drivers up to date? My T400 did this very rarely a few months into it's ownership, and hasn't happened since. Are you on the Lenovo preloaded Windows 7 or a self-installed OS?

lenovo preloaded OS. happens when on battery power only.

i believe the battery is reporting as not installed or at 0% battery for a brief instant, and windows is seeing this and hibernating. so obviously it does not happen when on AC power.

Might need to manually reinstall the Power Management Driver and Power Manager over the existing copies. Something may have gotten corrupted.

I've got the same problem with my T410. User installed Windows 7, lastest lenovo drivers, etc.

9-cell battery. Seems very random. I'd have 85% battery left, and it would all of a sudden go into hibernation as if the critical battery level was triggered. Most days I can use the laptop on battery without incident. I can't think of any steps to reproduce it, except that it only happens while on battery power.

Back from the dead! I have been having this problem on my T410 for a couple of weeks now. Then all of a sudden today, my T410s did it! Did anyone ever figure out what the problem is with this?

Some additional searching seems to indicate that tpfancontrol may be cause of the problem.
