I must've gotten lucky. My ThinkPad timeline was 72 hours from order to arrival. Probably the most time it stayed in one state was when it was on the truck on it's way to me. It left HK 1 a.m. Saturday (Eastern) and was loaded onto the truck for delivery at 3 a.m. Monday (Eastern).
Must've been an oversight.

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get comfortable with the SXGA+ display.
Other than that the baby is bloody marvelous! No gaps, creaks, fan noise, etc., etc. Well, one gap actually. The oft mentioned one just above the UltraBay Slim. I'm uncertain as to its cause, but the difference between the T42 and my T40 is immediately apparent. The combo drive fits the bay almost perfectly on the T40 with a small, uniform gap from front to back. The gap on the T42 bay is much larger and increases from front to back.
More later, gotta' run.

My T42
First, the tale of the tape:
08K4957 08K4986 KEYBOARD
Which is the Chinese keyboard, but I honestly can't tell any difference between it and the Thai keyboard in my T40!
92P1064 08K8193 BATTERY - 6 CELL
6 cell Sanyo, but it fits just fine with no wobble.
93P3482 93P3483 INTEL PRO WIRELESS 802.11B/G MINI-PCI
Works just fine with both of my home WiFi networks. I haven't had this machine out on the road yet, so I can't report on how well it might connect to public WAPs. But I have no difficulty connecting to a few neighbor's WAPs riding around with the unit in the car.
93P5570 11P8348 14.1 INCH LCD DISPLAY
Samsung display that's smegging brilliant! Seriously, the only laptop I've got to hand that can rival this display is my 15" UXGA-IPS A30p. All of my other SXGA+ equipped machines (2XT21 and T23) appear washed out next to this puppy. Nor is it a matter of age as one of my T21s has a brand new Hitachi LCD I just installed last month.
I still fear that I'm not going to be able to get used to this display and the way things stand right now I'll probably either offer it here to someone or send it back to IBM.
Regards,
James

Hello Stavros,
I have no problem shipping to the UK or anywhere in the EU, or even OZ or NZ, I do it all the time.
I went to IBM UK and several of their EU websites and I can't see where they even offer a T42 with the 14.1" SXGA+ display! Is that right? You can only get the T42 with a 15" display if you want SXGA+ resolution?
Very odd that.
For the record this is an Express model 2378FVU. Comes with one year IBM warranty (expires 26MAR2006) but if any of you folks overseas are interested in it I would suggest that you reimburse me for upgrading the warranty before I send it off as it's much easier and cheaper to upgrade here in the US. Upgrading to a 3 year depot level warranty is US$112.20 according to the IBM website, but I'm not certain as to whether or not that's for international coverage, I'd want to call and check.

James

It is sad, but true. I believe you can find some 14" SXGA+ models but they cost upwards of 3000 Euros!!! By the way, I am in the Netherlands now, not the UK. Upgrading the warranty is a good idea, please PM me a possible price (including warranty upgrade + shipping) should you decide to sell it.
Thanks
Stavros
