fingerprint login image

#1 Post by meeotch » Sun Nov 28, 2010 4:56 pm

Is there any way to change the image that's displayed for the fingerprint "user" on the win7 login screen?

Or alternatively, to have the fingerprint image not display at all (i.e. show the regular win7 login screen, but keep the fingerprint reader active).

Basically, I just don't like being confronted with an enormous ugly finger, and "SWIPE YOUR FINGER!!!" in 300-point text whenever I log in.

Hi Mee*...
not sure Which model machine you have ,,,, that has the FP reader
but you can do one of TWO things (as a sugestion)

1) Keep the FP reader active as is in WINDOWS and just add this new 'function' at laptop BOOTUP. ie - you can change the BIOS SETUP and add 'authenticate at login' via FP reader'
+ and add FP POWER ON password at log-in (in the application itself) THIS WAY =you get to swipe the fingure ONCE (only when u turn on the laptop) and it will log you in all way to the WINDOWS 7 DESKTOP. You wont have to touch it again till u see the windows desktop.

2) UNHOOK the fingure print reader option from windows7
Just uninstall the FP apps and install it again ( dont delete the stored data) ,,,,
then when done the reinstall , dont 'configure' that reader apps. it will stay 'dormant' and not interfere with Windows login stage etc ,,,,,,
HOWEVER its a bit of a 'security' risk , as if someone gets your laptop and than 'engages' your FP reader etc , it will ask for your fingures again PLUS THE STORED FINGER DATA can be copied (not that easily done but can BE DONE)

hope this helps ,,, and not too confusing
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that my system is a W500.

It's not that I want to change the functionality of the FP reader software, actually. I'm fine with swiping at every login - it's more convenient than typing in a password. It's purely an aesthetic change - I don't like the "finger" logo, and would prefer to see my own user icon, or a picture of my choosing. I was hoping the logo lived on disk somewhere and was easily replaceable.
