Productivity center.. 'update my system'

#1 Post by westsailor » Sat Dec 04, 2010 8:08 am

I was just reading another topic and it reminded me of something I've never been quite clear about.

In my Thinkpad Productivity Center there is an option to 'update my system'.

I can't find anything that explains exactly what this means. Does it search & install drivers, windows updates? What?

Is it a recommended approach to 'updating my system'?

believe it launches "System Update" which is the Lenovo equivalent of Windows Update, except that it is primarily for device drivers and Lenovo add-on/preinstalled apps.

I use System Update quite confidently, except for one item. I never let it perform a BIOS update. When I choose to do those, I create the bootable CD and do it that way. There a number of reports about doing those updates from a running Windows system, with bad results, but YMMV.

Cheers
